What Is A Single-pipe Lateral Seismic Brace?

A single-pipe lateral seismic brace is a device used to improve the stability and safety of a single water pipe during natural disasters such as earthquakes. Below is a detailed introduction:

1. Applications

Suitable for firefighting water pipes, automatic sprinkler pipes, and water supply pipes in water supply and drainage systems. In water supply systems of high-rise buildings with a design intensity of 8 or 9, anti-vibration measures should be implemented for straight-line lengths greater than 100 meters. For horizontal pipes with a diameter of DN65 or greater, such as indoor water supply, hot water, and fire protection pipes requiring protection, lateral seismic braces are also required.

2. Material and Anti-corrosion Treatment

The material is generally high-quality carbon steel or stainless steel. Two anti-corrosion treatment methods are commonly used: electrogalvanizing (EZ) and hot-dip galvanizing (HDG), to improve the brace's corrosion resistance and extend its service life.

3. Working Principle

The pipe is connected to the building structure via a diagonal brace structure. During an earthquake, diagonal braces absorb horizontal seismic forces and transfer them to the building structure, thereby limiting lateral displacement and controlling pipeline vibration. Some seismic supports are also equipped with shock-absorbing springs and damping mechanisms to further absorb and dissipate seismic energy, reducing the amplitude and frequency of pipeline vibration.

4. Structural Components

Primarily composed of anchors, reinforcement hangers, connecting fixtures, and seismic braces. Anchors secure the supports to the building structure; reinforcement hangers provide support and connection; connecting fixtures connect various components to ensure overall support stability; and seismic braces are key load-bearing components, absorbing horizontal seismic forces.

5. Installation method

First, measurement and anchor positioning are required to determine the length of the fully threaded hanger, the length of the stiffening channel steel, and the length of the diagonal bracing channel steel, etc., and mark the position of the expansion anchor bolts; then, material cutting is carried out according to the measurement data, and after the channel steel is cut, metal zinc spraying agent must be sprayed on the incision; then, the main hanger is installed, and expansion anchor bolts, fully threaded hangers and horseshoe-shaped pipe clamps are installed after drilling; then, the position of the diagonal bracing expansion anchor bolts is located, holes are drilled and lateral diagonal bracings are installed; finally, the stiffening device is installed to ensure that the spacing meets the corresponding requirements.
